Nonkululeko is a force to be reckoned with in the world of business. Born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, she had big dreams from an early age. She was a top performing student in her class, obtaining exceptionally good results in math and science. She was awarded the best performing student in South Africa in her junior year and after obtaining her senior certificate was awarded a scholarship to go study electrical engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. She also has a Masters degree from California Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Open University Business School.
She worked at IBM for 12 years in various positions then moved on to a number of executive positions in the financial, minerals and engineering fields. In 2012 she was listed as one of Forbes 100 Most Influential Women. Also the high achiever, Nonkululeko moved from being the CEO of chairperson on the Old Mutual board to being the first female chairperson of Alexander Forbes. The first in the company’s 82 year history! (yes we are getting goosebumps too).
She is also the chairperson of JSE Limited and the CEO of Dutch trading company Ichor Coal. If there is any Queen who knows how to take over boardrooms there’s no doubt Nonkululeko is at the top of the list. A great motivator!
